Have you ever been excited to try a new recipe and it turned into a disaster?
Well, it's happened to me twice now. I had some girls over Monday night to watch The Bachelorette and wanted to bake a little something. I had seen this recipe on Picky Palate for Smore's Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies and thought this would be the perfect occasion! Don't they look amazing?!
Well, the first problem I ran into was I didn't have enough all purpose flour that the recipe called for. So instead, I substituted self rising flour for all purpose and nixed the baking soda it called for. Not a problem, right? I also realized after I had put all the ingredients together that I forgot to add the brown sugar in one of the initial steps. Oops! So I attempted to mix the brown sugar into the batter at the very end. It seemed to blend well enough.
Well, something went wrong somewhere because this is how it turned out....
Several of the cookies fell apart in the oven and most of them had some sort of weird bubbling thing going on in the middle and on the bottom. Mine definitely didn't look like this coming out of the oven.
Dang it! I also attempted to make a poppyseed chicken casserole last night for dinner. I had everything put together and had just put it in the oven when I looked at the recipe again to see how long to set the timer for and realized it said to add cooked chicken into the mixture. Yup, definitely missed that step and added raw chicken instead. Needless to say, the chicken was still pink after 20 minutes of baking. So far I'm 0-2 on baking.
Despite my lack of abilities lately in the kitchen, I still love trying new recipes. Look at some of these pretty treats. Maybe I'll try my hand again and attempt to make one of these :)

What new recipes are you wanting to try?
With Love,
Yum! I love PIcky Palate and have tried a few of her recipes and love them...however; I have had the same problem with some of her cookies completely falling apart. Not sure how she does it! Love your blog :)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the smore brownies when you tried them the first time...thanks for reminding me I'm not alone in my baking failures!
